Buenos Aires, Dec 9 (NA) – The Senate is preparing to open this week in committee the debate on the labor reform bill, which the Government will send in the coming hours to that legislative body, according to legislative sources informed the Argentine News Agency. The La Libertad Avanza (LLA) block was finalizing the details of the fight it will face to get the ruling coalition to pass the labor reform, with which the Executive branch seeks to promote job creation. To achieve its goal of advancing the labor project, Vice President Victoria Villarruel must form the Labor and Social Security Commission, where the first battle to get this initiative approved will take place, which is rejected by Peronism, the CTA, and the CGT. The LLA's goal is to open the discussion this Thursday in the committee, which could be temporarily chaired by Senator Patricia Bullrich, who in the past had strong controversies with the 'Fat Cats of the CGT' and especially with Hugo Moyano, when she was Minister of Labor in the government of Fernando de la Rúa. While Bullrich's goal is to pass the reform before December 30, it is most likely to be passed at the end of January or February, legislative sources acknowledged to the Argentine News Agency. This is not an easy discussion, as they seek to implement changes in the compensation system, the ultra-activity of agreements, set limits on assemblies in the workplace, and restrict the responsibility of the company when the liability lies with a third-party firm, among other points. The composition of the commission The commission will have 17 members, and it is estimated that Peronism would have 6 members, between 4 and 5 from La Libertad Avanza, and the rest will be distributed among the UCR, PRO, and provincial blocs. In this way, the ruling coalition will need to close agreements to have a majority report and achieve its approval in the session room, as it has twenty of the 37 it needs to obtain a quorum and pass this initiative. The ruling coalition has 20 senators - although now it has 19 since the swearing-in of Enzo Fullone is pending, who will replace Lorena Villaverde - with which it needs the project to be supported by the ten UCR senators, 5 from PRO, and at least two provincial ones. Regarding the labor reform, UCR Senator Carolina Losada assured that “there is a very high chance” that the project will be approved by Congress and explained that the initiative contains “many points that are super favorable for workers and for SMEs”. In dialogue with Radio Rivadavia, the Santa Fe legislator also criticized the sectors of unionism that oppose an initiative “that they still do not know” and maintained that “perhaps what they fear is that in some reform a certain racket or benefit ends for them”. The Government hopes to generate employment with the new labor law. Photo: Agency NA. Photography: Noticias Argentinas/File. The Chief of Staff, Manuel Adorni, pointed out that “what stands out the most about labor modernization is ultra-activity, precedence of agreements, and labor fiscal burden”.
